Pricing & Estimates

How much does stump grinding cost in Florida?

Per-stump pricing in our 7-county area runs $175–$550 based on diameter at ground level. Small stumps under 12 inches are $175–$275, medium 12–24 inches are $275–$400, large 24–36 inches are $400–$550, and anything bigger gets quoted per job. Equivalent per-inch math is roughly $4–$6 per diameter inch with a minimum charge.

Do I get a discount for multiple stumps?

Yes — the moment there’s more than one. The biggest cost on any stump job is mobilization (loading, towing, fueling, unloading the grinder). Once the equipment is on site, every additional stump is dramatically cheaper. A 5-stump job is not 5x a single-stump job. Tell us how many stumps when you call and we’ll quote the bundle.

Are the estimates really free, with no obligation?

Yes. Every estimate is in writing — scope, price, timeline. No deposit to get a quote, no pressure to book on the spot, no “today only” pricing. We quote, we leave, you decide. The fastest way to a price is a text photo to (386) 248-5486 — we’ll text back a range within 4 business hours.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex), and Zelle. Payment is due on completion of the work, not before. For multi-day commercial or HOA jobs we can split into milestone payments.

Timeline & Scheduling

How long does a stump grinding job take?

A single small-to-medium stump (under 24 inches) takes 30–60 minutes including setup, grind, and cleanup. A large live oak with extensive surface roots can run 90 minutes to 2 hours. Multi-stump jobs are faster per stump because the equipment is already on site — a yard with 8 stumps is usually a half-day.

How fast can you get out to my property?

Most quotes happen within 2–4 business days of the call. The actual grinding is typically scheduled 3–10 days after you accept — faster if there’s a route opening near you, slower in peak hurricane recovery weeks (September–November). For storm-damage jobs we prioritize same-week scheduling whenever the schedule allows.

What happens if it rains the day of the job?

Light rain is fine — we work through it. Heavy rain or active lightning means we reschedule, no charge for the bump. Saturated yards (after multi-day storms) sometimes get a 24–48 hour delay so the grinder doesn’t tear up the lawn worse than the stump did. We text you the morning of with a go/no-go call.

Equipment & Process

What equipment do you use?

A dedicated commercial Vermeer stump grinder for full-size jobs, plus a narrow-frame grinder for tight backyards. Both run carbide cutting teeth that handle Florida live oak, sabal palm, laurel oak, and slash pine without slowing down. The grinder rides on its own equipment trailer; the trailer stays on the driveway or street and the grinder walks off onto the work area — never the trailer on grass.

How deep do you grind?

Standard depth is 6–12 inches below grade — enough to lay sod, plant grass, or run a mower over the spot without ever knowing a stump was there. If you’re putting pavers, a pool deck, a driveway, or any structure on top, we grind deeper to clear the base material. Tell us at the estimate so we set depth correctly.

Do you grind tree roots too, or just the stump?

The stump and the surface roots radiating from it are part of every grind. Deeper lateral roots (the ones running 5+ feet from the stump under your driveway or lawn) are not removed by stump grinding — they’re left to decompose in place over 1–5 years. If a specific surface root is a tripping hazard or pushing up your patio, point it out at the estimate and we’ll address it.

Can you grind stumps in tight backyards or near a pool cage?

Yes. Our narrow-frame grinder fits through a standard 36-inch side gate and operates in confined spaces without damaging surrounding structures. If you can walk to the stump, we can almost certainly grind it.

Cleanup, Sod & Restoration

What happens to the wood chips and the hole left behind?

Three options: (1) leave the chips in the hole as backfill — they decompose and settle over 6–12 months, (2) we haul the chips away same-day for a small add-on, or (3) bundle the full restoration — we haul the chips, grade the spot to match surrounding grade, and lay fresh sod. Chip cleanup (raked level) is included in every grind by default.

Do you offer sod replacement as an add-on?

Yes — St. Augustine, Bahia, Bermuda, or Zoysia to match what’s already in the yard. Sod is a separate line item priced per square foot installed. Bundling sod with the grind is dramatically cheaper than calling a separate landscaper after the fact, because the equipment, hauling, and grading are already covered.

Insurance, Permits & Site Prep

Are you licensed and insured?

Fully licensed and insured for commercial stump grinding across Florida, with general liability coverage that protects your property if something unexpected happens. Insurance certificate available on request — HOAs and commercial property managers usually want it before we’re on site, and we send it the same day.

Do I need a permit, and do you handle the 811 utility locate?

Stump grinding itself doesn’t require a permit in any of our 7 counties. We always handle the Sunshine 811 / Florida One Call locate before grinding — it’s free, takes 2 business days, and protects against hitting a buried gas line, irrigation line, or power feed. We schedule it, confirm clear, then bring the equipment in.

Do I need to do anything to prep before you arrive?

Almost nothing. Move cars out of the driveway if the stump is near it, unlock the side gate if the stump is in the back yard, and keep pets inside during grinding. That’s it. We mark sprinkler heads, work around landscape lighting, and clean up the work area before we leave.
