Florida stump-grinding jobs typically run $175 to $550 per stump, with most homeowners landing in the $275 to $400 band on a single medium stump. The calculator above gives you a personalized ballpark in seconds — here’s the pricing logic behind it.
Stump Grinding Price by Diameter
| Stump Size | Diameter at Ground | Typical Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Under 12 inches | $175 – $275 |
| Medium | 12 – 24 inches | $275 – $400 |
| Large | 24 – 36 inches | $400 – $550 |
| Very Large | 36 inches and up | $500 – $750 |
Per-inch, that’s roughly $4–$6 per inch of diameter in Florida, with a $175 minimum charge covering the cost of mobilizing a commercial grinder. The bottom of each range applies to softwoods (pine, palm, citrus, magnolia); the top to hardwoods (oak, hickory, elm).
Multi-Stump Discount
If you have more than one stump, the per-stump cost drops because we mobilize once. The first stump covers the trip charge; the rest are priced closer to actual grinding time. Roughly:
- 2–3 stumps: ~8% per-stump savings
- 4–6 stumps: ~18% per-stump savings
- 7+ stumps: ~28% per-stump savings
Common Add-Ons
| Add-On | Typical Price |
|---|---|
| Same-day chip haul-away | $50 – $150 (per job) |
| Yard grading after grinding | $300 – $1,200 (depends on area) |
| Sod replacement (~50 sq ft patch) | $45 – $80 |
For larger grading or sod jobs, see our dedicated cost guides: Yard Grading Cost and Sod Replacement Cost.
What Else Moves the Number
- Below-grade depth. Standard grind is 4–6 inches below the surrounding lawn. Deeper for replanting (8–12 inches) costs more.
- Access. A 36-inch gate forces a walk-behind grinder, which is slower. Tight backyards, steep slopes, or roots near utilities all add labor.
- Wood hardness. Oak and hickory wear teeth faster than pine or palm. Palm fiber is soft but eats cutters — we may rotate teeth mid-job.
- Cleanup. Whether the chip pile stays on site for mulch, gets spread, or hauled away.
